چکیده
A 35-year-old man with a medical history of schizophrenia was presented at the hospital because of abdominal pain and fever. There were evidence of localized peritoneal irritation by exam. His laboratory tests on admission revealed an elevated white blood cell count of 24.700 mm and neutrophilia (88.1%). An abdominal CT scan showed four foreign bodies (Fig. 1), one of them producing a sigmoid colon perforation with pneumoperitoneum. The patient was taken urgently to the operating room for surgery. A FB was found penetrating sigmoid colon (Fig. 2) without intra-abdominal contamination. A primary suture was performed and the patient was discharged to home without any complications. Sigmoid Colon Perforation Caused by Bone: A Rare Case Report
Ingestion of a foreign body is not uncommon, but rarely results in perforation of the gastrointestinal tract. The majority of ingested foreign bodies pass through the gastrointestinal tract without complication. Only less than 1% may cause bowel perforation, depending on the size and the shape of the foreign body [1]. Common sites of perforation are the narrow parts of the bowel. Perforation of...

An 86 year old male with a four-day history of nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms was found on colonoscopy to have evidence of sigmoid colon obstruction and possible perforation. Emergent operative exploration revealed diffuse peritonitis, sigmoid perforation, adjacent dense adhesions, and a foreign body protruding through the perforated area. Pathologic examination showed the foreign body t...
متن کاملEndoscopic removal of a toothpick perforating the sigmoid colon and causing chronic abdominal pain: a case report
Toothpick ingestion is implicated in gut injuries which may cause severe complications, mimicking diseases causing acute abdomen. However, toothpick ingestion-related perforation may also cause mild, non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms without significant findings or major complications. We describe a young male with chronic postprandial lower abdominal pain caused by a toothpick impaction a...
متن کاملTwig tea impaction in the colon causing abdominal pain.
We describe a case of lower abdominal pain caused by a twig tea impaction at the rectosigmoid junction after inadvertent ingestion. The foreign body was detected and successfully dislodged from the colonic wall with grasping forceps during colonoscopy. The post-procedural course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged 10 days after the removal. Colonic injury, including perforation due t...
متن کاملSigmoid perforation caused by an ingested chicken bone presenting as right iliac fossa pain mimicking appendicitis: a case report
INTRODUCTION Gastrointestinal perforation due to a foreign body is not unknown. The foreign body often mimics another cause of acute abdomen and requires emergency surgical intervention. The majority of patients do not recall ingesting the foreign body. Perforations have been reported to occur in a pathologically abnormal colon. CASE PRESENTATION We report an interesting case of a 47-year-old...
